I&CS Software Engineer


Information Systems Upgrades

Overall Purpose:
Primarily responsible for performing software design activities including requirements elicitation, development of design specifications, software implementation and testing.  Additional responsibilities include: documentation and supporting testing and commissioning of Information and Control Systems used for Nuclear Power Plant applications.
They don’t want a pure developer anymore..  still need C++ but with a  cyber mix.
  1. Must have software code review exp. ( must be able to modify codes)
  2. Need some cyber security experience to validate threats and vulnerabilities.
  3. Perform static source code and dynamic vulnerability assessment inspecting the developed code for potential security defects, poor programming practices, hidden functions, and vulnerable features within the code.
  4. Design, implement and execute unit tests on developed code to ensure that the code was developed correctly and accurately.
  5. Conduct and participate in software design/Peer reviews to ensure software compliance with functional requirements and accepted Nuclear I&CS standards and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform detailed software engineering including:
  • Elicit functional requirements for Information and Control Systems (I&CS) related software.
  • Develop design specifications that satisfy the functional requirements.
  • Develop detailed design specifications covering software, I&CS hardware/software integration, system integration and testing.
  • Conduct and participate in Engineering design/Peer reviews to ensure system compliance with functional requirements and accepted Nuclear I&CS standards and regulations.
  • Resolve technical issues that arise during system design and implementation.
  • Provide design input and support for operations to facilitate manufacturing process, testing and integration during factory acceptance tests.
  • Interface with Supply Chain management, manufacturing, outside vendors and other departments affected by design & development.
  • Interface with system end users and customers as required to support meeting project technical objectives.
  • Interface with multi-disciplined teams for I&CS system level design, integration and testing.
  • Provide cost and schedule estimates as required.
  • BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Experience developing/designing large object-oriented software systems.
  • Experience using UML in software design.
  • Extensive experience programming in C++ and/or Java.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows or Unix/Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of I&C projects utilizing DCS in Power Plants or other heavy industrial industries.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.  Ability to present in a professional manner and represent the company image. 
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects or tasks.
  • Ability to coordinate technical activities of other engineering staff as required.
Physical Requirements (Work out details with HR):
  • Ability to communicate with others both written and orally.   
  • Up to 10-20% travel may be required. 
  • Mobility within the office and on construction job sites.

We are interested in the Engineer with several years of  experience (at least 2-3 years or more) in the Cyber Security Vulnerability C++ and Java code assessment / reviews.  Specifically the candidate should  have experience with analysis/testing for and remediation of security vulnerabilities found in software in the following capacities:
  • Static Application Security Testing (SAST) -  analyzing application source code, byte code, and binaries for coding and design conditions that are indicative of security vulnerabilities.
  • Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) – analyzing software  to detect conditions indicative of a security vulnerability in an application in its running state.
  • The candidate should be familiar with secure coding practices.
  • The candidate should be experienced in conducting and participating in code reviews to identify security vulnerabilities in source code.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with one or more of the commercial tools/scanners that are selected by Westinghouse for use in performing security testing of our software. Currently we are considering Coverity and Fortify static analyzers and Defensics dynamic analyzer.
