 This position reports to the Director of IP Technologies and is responsible for a wide range of responsibilities in support of Armstrong’s evolving Carrier Service Provider network. 
This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including network planning, network engineering, design implementation, network migration planning, customer product design, proof of concept testing, and network optimization.  The Network Design Engineer will support modifications and enhancements of  MPLS network, core routing, DOCSIS and EPON last mile networks, DWDM and SONET transport networks, and others.  This position will also have a significant role in the development of service delivery methods and data network customer products.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to setting long-term goals that will support company initiatives and growth. 

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the Director of IP Technologies, other network engineers, operations engineers and
   technicians, sales engineers, customers, vendors, various levels of management, and others.
• Be a subject matter expert – this is a top level engineering position.  Must be able to research and learn new
   things as needed.
• Assist and guide Operations personnel in the installation, configuration, turn up, modification, and
   troubleshooting of network equipment.
• Develop and lead comprehensive lab proof of concept testing procedures with no predetermined bias.
• Participate in network planning and network deployment strategies.
• Create and implement Methods of Procedure, project work plans, and work requests.  Must have a strong
   focus on quality and network sustainability (99.999% up time).
• Engineer network methods that are repeatable, scalable, and easily deployable across the network.
   Must avoid one-off solutions.
• Create detailed documentation of Armstrong’s network systems and topologies – new and existing.
• Provide top-tier assistance to the Operations team for troubleshooting and repair of network systems.
• Provide direction and guidance for policy and procedure creation related to our companies engineering
   practices and network design.
• Lead high-quality and comprehensive lab POC tests of proposed engineering solutions.
